  5. I am sick and tired of hearing people refer to college and graduate programs as these evil things.  Characterizing education as something we are forced into by “the man.”

For example, I love Macklemore, but in “Ten Thousand Hours,” he references a “generation of kids choosing love over a desk.”

What about the kids that LOVE their desk?  What about those of us that relish every moment of classroom learning, of reading books, of studying something so hard that you become expert in it?  What about those of us that want to go to graduate school just because we love it, not to necessarily get any kind of professional leg up?

It’s one thing to be almost twenty-one and secure in your nerdiness.  But what about the kids that aren’t, that turn away from a genuine love for learning and scholarly pursuit because it’s “frowned upon”?  And also, wtf kind of society are we that demonize loving school at the same time that we expect kids to go through extensive schooling?  Wouldn’t it be better to celebrate the values of everyone’s dreams and encourage them to pursue them?
